In March 1998, I started acupuncture with Dr. Per Otte of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. My prayers were answered. I left it in Gods hands, and he sent me to the most dedicated, caring, knowledgeable person I have ever known. I will never live long enough to meet another person that could measure up to Dr. Otte.

In 1998, I was diagnosed legally blind, and I started my treatments in March 1998. Today my eyes are somewhere between 20/40 and 26/60, and continuing to improve. I can now see the face of my children and my grandchildren. When your eyesight starts to fade there is a fear, "If I can't see them, will I forget what they look like."

I am a photographer, and through the 18 years I have felt my portraits were a work of art. I was crushed when I could no longer see what I had worked so hard for. Thanks to Dr. Otte, I can see my portraits once again, I can see faces, I can once again thread a needle.
Dr. Otte tells me the treatments continue to work for three weeks after your last treatment. I seem to continue to see improvement even past the three weeks.

In May 1998, as a passenger, I could not see the taillights on the car in front of me. Two months later, as we were in traffic and stopped at a light I was amazed when I read the license plate number off the car in front of me. My vision continues to improve. Road signs and interstate overhead sign start to come into focus. A couple of weeks later I realized that the interstate overhead signs were coming into focus one-half mile away where before I had to be directly under the sign to read it.

The most rewarding day you could ever have is to spend one in the clinic and learn from so many patients how Dr. Otte has given them their life back.

In November of 1997, I noticed a radical loss of vision in my right eye. I contacted my doctor at the eye clinic of Racine and he performed numerous tests over a period of several months. To confirm his diagnoses he arranged for additional tests at the Eye Institute of Wisconsin. It is the foremost eye clinic in Wisconsin and is affiliated with the medical college of Wisconsin. They confirmed the diagnoses and said I had wet Macular Degeneration as the result of abnormal bleeding behind the macula. I was also told that there was no cure for the malady and "It's not if? but when" as to the ultimate loss of my vision. So I went home and waited for my left eye to fail because it was having abnormal bleeding.

Our son-in-law in law and daughter has a home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas as a pre-retirement home. One day they found an advertisement from Arkansas Acupuncture clinic, claiming they could improve vision for people afflicted with Macular Degeneration. The clinic is located by the main entrance in the village. They visited the clinic, discussed my affliction with Dr. Per Otte, contacted us in Racine and arranged for an appointment on November 9,1998.

The clinic gave me an eye exam performed with the assistance of a computer. A printout showing the effective vision for each eye and the problem in each eye was made. It consisted of a computer-generated image, which was color coded for vision loss and blood flow.

Dr. Otte said there was sufficient reason to have some treatments so I began with micro acupuncture. I was given 5 treatments, 2 on November 9th, 2 on November 10th and one on November 11th. Another eye exam was performed on November 11th. A comparison of both charts and images showed a considerable improvement and my ability to read, especially small print was enhanced. As a result, I had 6 additional treatments, a total of 11 over a five-day period.

An experienced acupuncturist very easily accomplished the treatments. We removed our shoes and socks. Three needles were inserted into the ball of each foot, two in the right hand, one in the left hand, one in the right temple and one in the forehead. It was painless outside of the initial pinprick, which is done quickly. We sat in lazy boy loungers for periods of 20 minutes to one hour. There were people in Lazy Boy loungers from all parts of the country and we exchanged notes and comments about our respective problems. It was a friendly gathering of people with all kinds of difficulties. Many had been there before and were getting treatment after a one or two year period. All said there was improvements with their vision.

On my return to Racine, I had another check up at the Eye Clinic of Racine. I had improved my vision on the eye chart by two lines. It was also time for my driver's license renewal, since I am now 83 years old. My check up with the doctor resulted in his giving me a "no driving restriction" and so my driver's license was renewed for another 8 years. My doctor said I should come back in one years time for another check up.

Here are the results I have experienced after the treatment at The Arkansas Acupuncture Clinic:

1. I have no problems reading a newspaper, including stock market listings, without using a magnifier lens. My vision has improved to the point where I consider it normal. However, my left eye is dominant and compensates for some difficulty with the right eye.
2. There is still some difficulty with my right eye. It has improved considerably from the initial problem but focusing is still a bit of a problem. I notice the improvements especially when attending church. Prior to Dr. Otte's treatment, I could not see the priest but now I can see all the activity at the altar in detail.
3. I came to the clinic in Arkansas somewhat of a skeptic but left a believer. I use an eye chart daily to check my vision. After treatments, there are improvements over a period of several months and also stability. However, this is not a cure. After a year or two, there should be some booster treatments. However, in the interim, improvements in the quality of life are almost a miracle, almost like being born again.
