Ralph A. Franzese
As of Friday, July 30, l999, I have just finished three weeks of acupuncture treatments from Dr. Per Otte of Hot Springs, AR for macular degeneration. The results have been outstanding!! I originally had gone to Dr. Otte in April l999, with good results after only one week of treatment. That is the reason I decided to go back for three weeks of treatment, which was an excellent decision on my part.
I have had laser surgery and vitrectomy surgery on my right eye. The surgeries did stop the bleeding, but destroyed my vision even further. I also had gone for experimental radiation treatments, which did not help at all.
At that point, a friend, Jean George, told me about a magazine article in Healthy Living Magazine about Dr. Otte. At that point, I decided to try this procedure to preserve my left eye, thinking that the surgeries would prevent any improvement in my right eye.
I am happy to say that I was wrong!!! My right eye improved dramatically, even with the scar tissue. I would encourage anyone with this eye problem to try Dr. Otte. After five treatments, he will honestly tell you whether he can help you or not.
Sincerely,
Ralph A. FranzeseJohn Vail
I am a twenty-nine year old born with red/green color-blindness. Like many others I know, I have always been told that Color-blindness is a genetic disorder and that it is incurable. I now think otherwise.
I have always had a desire to fly airplanes and one of the first tests for your pilot's license is the Color-blindness test. I obviously could not pass, so my first job was to find a way to differentiate between red and green. I have tried corrective contact lenses. They did let me distinguish the difference between red and green, but they distorted the clarity of my vision severely.
In November of 1999, I went to the Arkansas Therapy Center as a support to my grandmother. She was there to undergo acupuncture treatment for Macular Degeneration. While I was there, I asked if Dr. Otte had ever tried acupuncture for color-blindness. I was surprised to find out that he had and that he thought that he could help me. I began the treatments along with my grandmother. After the second treatment, I started to notice things looking brighter and more vivid. I wasn't sure, but things were definitely looking different. The next few days, and a few treatments later, I knew that the treatments were working.
When my parents first started to realize that I was color-blind, they had me separate different colored gumballs. I placed all of the yellow in one pile, all of the blue in another, and all of the red and green in the same pile. After that and the "Find what is in the dots" test, I was definitely "red-green color-blind". I tested myself with the gumballs again, after the first couple days of treatment. This time I separated them all correctly! It was a very wonderful experience.
I took eight treatments over one week and the results are nothing shy of a miracle. It was very tiring on my brain for the first week or so, and it has been a constant education learning my colors. One of the best side effects is being able to see contrast. I never realized how things could, "jump out at you," when compared to another color. And, unlike the contacts, I gained more clarity and more definition.
This has been an amazing experience for me and I hope that others can also benefit from this treatment.
I would like to thank Dr. Otte, his brother Ole, and all of the staff at the Arkansas Therapy Center, for all of their help, and for giving me the chance to see the world the way it was meant to be seen.
Sincerely

I would like to thank Linda Kaspari and FOCUS for informing me of Dr. Otte's Micro Acupuncture treatment in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
On May 17th, 1999 I had my first field scan showing my vision to be very poor. Dr. Otte suggested 6 treatments to see if there would be any improvement and we proceeded with that. After 6 treatments and taking my second field scan, I knew there were some improvements when the flashing lights appeared more often. After reviewing the second scan, Dr. Otte said that there was a slight improvement in clarity and bottom field and I agreed.
I received an additional 7 treatments and would have liked to have more, but time did not permit me to do so.
While there I had the opportunity to talk with many other patients and all claimed varying degrees of improvement. Based on personal experience, I would recommend this procedure to anyone having vision problems and I am looking forward to more treatments.

The Micro acupuncture treatment that I received in Hot Springs Village was a wonderful experience for me! As a believer in alternative medicine, I was able to be very open minded about the concept of needles in my feet and hands, helping my eyes.
I arrived in Hot Springs Village on June 22, 1999, with 10 degrees of vision and 20/400 in my right eye and 20/600 in my left eye. I was able to read with the help of a CCTV. Reading labels on canned goods was difficult at times. Some nights for dinner we had baked beans instead of the corn, I thought I opened. Thank goodness, my family likes baked beans! Since my return from Arkansas, it is easier to tell the difference. My daughter and I went food shopping yesterday, she was excited when I read the cereal boxes in the store.
I received the first five treatments and two visual field scans, as
explained to me by Dr. Otte. I continued treatments until I had 20 in all.
I tested myself the entire time in Arkansas. After 8 treatments, I noticed that the colors of the flowers at the Village Inn were more vibrant. I was beginning to pick out the orange ones and the pink ones, without thinking they were red. The brightness of the sun did not bother me as much. I noticed that I was removing my sunglasses, while outside. I usually never take off my sunglasses out of doors, during daylight hours. I planted 200 Impatients in May. They were a new color, watermelon. My husband assured me that they were pretty. After 20 treatments, I can assure you, that they are beautiful! I look forward to planting the same watermelon colored Impatients next year.
We own a summer home at the Jersey shore. I always thought the walls in our home were dark brown paneling. Guess what, they are a pretty Wedgewood blue! This home is nestled in the woods, with sandy winding roads leading you to our neighbors and recreational facilities. The task of wandering around this park was not easy. This has also become easier.
I, also, tested my reading ability, while in Arkansas. I took along a brochure from home. I was only able to read this brochure with the help of a CCTV. After 8 treatments, I was able to read the large bold print without corrective lenses and the smaller bold print with corrective lenses. After 20 treatments, this task became easier. I also, began to see the darkness of the regular print. Before treatments, this same page was white only. I could only see the print, with the help of a CCTV. Today is September 16, 1999; I can now read what I write on a blank, white piece of paper with a black marker!
My return to Dr. Otte's office is scheduled for October 20, 1999. I look forward to this return, where I know I will be treated with the most incredible care. Dr. Otte and his staff are wonderful caring people.
Respectfully,
Rose Marie Wade

I was devastated when I lost vision in both of my eyes. It all started five years ago when I suffered an occlusion (blockage) of the retinal vein in my left eye. I lost significant sight in my left eye and my vision deteriorated to 20/400 (without or with glasses). I therefore had to depend on my right eye, which was 20/50 (with glasses) to compensate for this loss. Then about two-and-one-half years ago, I noticed a problem seeing clearly and reading with my right eye. I immediately went to my ophthalmologist and retina specialist who said I had a macular hemorrhage in my right eye. Since the bleeding had stopped, laser surgery was not necessary. The vision in my right eye was 20/80.
My sight gradually deteriorated to the point where I could not distinguish a person's facial features if they were more than four feet away; I could only see their outline. Also, I would have to look slightly to the side of an object (using peripheral vision) in order to see it; I could not see things looking straight ahead. I tried prescription glasses from a low vision center but they offered me little improvement so I never bothered to use them. I even gave prescription telescopic glasses a try but found them very restrictive and more of a nuisance than a help so I didn't bother with them either.
I performed daily activities around the house with great difficulty. The only way I was able to see if I cleaned or cooked something properly was with the use of +8.00 diopter reading glasses (non-prescription magnifying glasses) and getting close to the object. If I wanted to look at a recipe or check a TV guide, I would have to also use a magnifying desk lamp (3 diopter) with a fluorescent light in addition to my reading glasses. The television itself was placed at my bedside (less than 2 feet away) in order for me to see a program.
At age 88, with a retinal vein occlusion (with a disciform scar) in my left eye, macular hemorrhage in my right eye, in addition to simple glaucoma and stable macular degeneration in both eyes, I was willing to try anything which could possibly improve my sight. After learning about Dr. Otte and his micro acupuncture treatments, my family and I decided it was worth giving it a try, especially since the treatments were non-invasive. So an appointment was made and I was off to Arkansas on the Fourth of July 1999.
The micro acupuncture treatments I received have changed my life! I had a total of 22 treatments during my two-week stay in Arkansas. After the first week (12 treatments), I began to notice an improvement in my right eye. First of all, my vision without glasses was noticeably better; I could see things a little clearer both at a distance and trying to read. The prescription glasses (bifocal) which didn't help me before were beginning to make a difference. I was starting to read signs with large lettering at a distance which was not possible before and I was even reading smaller letters on a near vision acuity chart. After the second week my sight improved further and I realized I was able to look directly at objects in order to see them. This was not possible before.
Although I didn't notice any improvement in my left eye, the gain in my right eye allows me to look directly at people and objects and be able to see features. I can also view my television that is now located at the foot of my bed and see the picture clearer than it was before when it was about 2 feet away. Although I still find it hard to read actual newspaper print with my prescription bifocals, I no longer need the +8.00 diopter reading glasses nor the magnifying desk lamp. Vision in my right eye three weeks after treatments improved to 20/60+.
The results I experienced through Dr. Otte's treatments have been nothing short of miraculous. He deserves high recognition by the scientific and medical community and I am forever grateful for his work in pioneering the use of micro acupuncture.
