At age 5, my parents were told I had a vision problem. I was later diagnosed with a rare condition called choroidal sclerosis osteoma. The disease has an effect similar to that of macular degeneration. My vision significantly worsened during my college years as a result of hemorrhaging blood vessels in my eyes. In 1995, I had to stop driving. During my pregnancy, in 2001, I lost the ability to read regular print and shortly thereafter could no longer read large print. At age 31, I heard about Dr. Otte.

In February 2002, two weeks after hearing about Dr. Otte, my husband and I loaded up our awesome little boy and headed to Arkansas Therapy Center. I'll admit, while receiving my first treatments, I questioned the fact that this guy was going to make me see better by sticking needles in my hands, feet, and forehead.

After just three treatments, I remember that as I handed my mom the order form for microacupuncture vitamins I grabbed it back from her because I had been able to see some letters on the paper. Wow!! During the second week of that visit, I noticed the lotion bottle I was using had a lime green cap. Before the treatments, I thought it was cream colored. I was also going to order my little boy a black and gray toy cell phone but when I returned home and got ready to order it, I noticed it was red and blue. I could hardly believe what was happening.

I returned for another two weeks in May, one week in July, one week in August, and am returning for two weeks in November. I can now see most prices in stores, sizes on clothing, large print books, and in August I was able to obtain a restricted driver's license. Dr. Otte has also been treating my Raynauds (cold hand and feet) and it too has significantly improved. I plan to aggressively receive treatments until I reach my desired goal of 20/40 corrected vision.

I am diabetic. I have had no feeling in the bottoms of my feet for the past two years. I heard about Dr. Otte's vacuum therapy treatment for this problem from my sister (who has been Dr. Otte's patient for Macular Degeneration).

After consulting with Dr. Otte about my feet, I decided to take his vacuum therapy treatments. Vacuum therapy ("booting") does not require acupuncture. To explain it in layman's terms, vacuum therapy, forces the blood vessels to be more active and push the blood flow tot the bottom of the feet. The treatment is painless. I took nine treatments: two treatments per day, twenty minutes per treatment. After nine treatments, total feeling returned to my feet.

While I was with Dr. Otte, I had mentioned to him that my eye surgeon in San Diego (for cataracts) said that I had Macular Degeneration. Dr. Otte suggested that I take an eye scan. After having the scan (that confirmed the diagnosis) I decided to have acupuncture treatments for my eyes for 14 treatments over a five-day period. The results from my original scan on Monday showed my eyes were: Right eye 20/200, Left eye 20/150. On Wednesday my eyes were: Right eye 20/150, Left eye 20/110.
Both treatments, Vacuum Therapy and Acupuncture were done in the same week.

A couple of weeks ago Bob went to his retina specialist for a 6 months checkup. The guy said there wasn't much change and for Bob to come back in a year. In January, when he first learned he had macular degeneration, I checked the web and learned there was no cure, no treatment, other than taking antioxidants. They would not improve his vision, but "might" delay the disease from destroying his vision in his "good" eye. In the ensuing months he completely lost all central vision in his left eye.

A day after this last visit to the "specialist", I got a call from a girlfriend who knew about Bob's problem. She related the miraculous improvement a friend had had after just a few micro acupuncture treatments. The lady is in her 80's and was legally blind. She had not been able to drive since last Thanksgiving and had to be guided through the door. Well, after a few treatments she was able to read a menu and after 20 treatments, she was able to drive again! Bob and I discussed it and I took him last Monday for his first treatment. First he had a retinal scan, just like in the "specialists" office, but he was given a color copy of the results. The center of his eye, was black/purple. That means he saw nothing in the center of his macula. Yellow is the normal color with green showing deterioration and brown, then purple and finally black as the vision gets worse. He had very little yellow, a lot of green and a good bit of brown. His good eye was mainly green with more yellow that the bad eye, but also some brown.

He could read only to the 20/250 line on the close vision test, and he could not read the center letter on any line. He could not differentiate between C, D, and O and it was a laborious effort. On Friday, he sailed through the 20/250 line, with no errors, and didn't have difficulty until he got to the 20/125 line. He improved from 20/30 to 20/20 in his good eye and could read some of the 20/16 line.

Everyday he would look at things only through his bad eye and say, "Maybe it's my imagination, but I think I'm seeing better". Well, it wasn't his imagination. He can see better, and it's entirely due to the Micro Acupuncture. he had 7 treatments last week and will have 8 more this week. Then another scan and he will be back in 6 months for treatments as needed. We both are convinced that his vision will eventually be 100% restored. And he is antioxidants -- very high units of vitamin A -- to maintain the level of vision.
His improvement is nothing short of miraculous. And we are very disgusted with traditional practitioners who gave no hope for improvement, basically told him-and everyone else with the disease--to just go home and go blind.
So, I'm trying to spread the word that there is hope for some restoration of vision. Much depends on whether a person has wet or dry macular degeneration and/or any other vision problems. Bob has dry and is responding beautifully. He also has not had it for very long.

There were other people taking treatments with him last week and their results varied. One woman, about 60 years old, had been taking the treatments for 2 years-every 6 months-and her sight has been restored. She was told she would be blind in 6 months so to go home and organize her closet. Another lady, 92, has had some improvement but her scans were almost totally purple and black when she started. Another, about 80, has glaucoma as well. He showed no improvement. One man, in his 70's, had the wet kind and had had laser treatments. He will never regain vision where he was lasered, but he is improving in the rest of his eye. Then there was the lady my friend told me about. The day we met her, she announced that she saw so well, she put on the loudest thing she could find in her closet in celebration and that she had driven the night before for the fist time in nearly a year.

This is a testimonial of my visit to Dr. Otte's office. He is an acupuncturist who resides in Hot Springs, AR. A friend of the family whose father-in-law has macular degeneration referred me to him. Prior to treatment, he was unable to read a newspaper with a magnifying glass. After returning home, he was able to read a newspaper without any magnification.
When you first arrive, you take some standard eye tests. Peripheral fields and vision tests were done. My vision using a hand held eye chart, uncorrected, was 20/150 in my right eye, and 20/250 in my left eye. My peripheral vision pretty minimal. Dr. Otte discussed the results with me. He said I would have about five treatments and after this retake the eye tests. He also said improvement should occur by this time. If not, there was nothing he could do for me and I would return home.
I had 19 treatments in total, which took about 1 week. Each treatment lasted about 30 minutes and consisted of needles being placed in the bottom of my feet, the palms of my hands, and one needle each on my temples and between my eyes. I usually had three treatments per day. During my first treatment, Dr. Otte mentioned that he thought the treatments would be successful due to an increased coloring in my hand that had occurred during the treatment. After the treatment, we tested my vision and I could read one additional line on the eye chart. At the end of my 17th treatment, my vision had improved, uncorrected, to 20/60 in my right eye and somewhat better than 20/150 in my left eye. Dr. Otte also mentioned that my peripheral vision had improved to about 10 degrees. I do not know what it was before, but I know from looking at the results of my field test that I did not see much. Dr. Otte believes that he can continue to improve my vision upon subsequent visits.
I am very pleased with the results of my treatments. It is the first intervention that has improved my vision, let alone stopped the progression of my RP. Dr Otte said the improvement usually continues for about two weeks after the treatment has stopped and then will stabilize. I had been on the Carlson Eye Care program for eight months with lutein and had not noticed any stoppage or improvement in my vision. I will continue to visit Dr. Otte for treatments and can update Focus magazine if requested.

Do You Have An Eye Problem?

I was given the bad news three years ago by my doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I was diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration and was told there was nothing that could be done for me and to prepare for the worst. I was not a candidate for laser surgery due to the fact that the leakage was too close to the optic nerve. When asked if there was a cure in the future - the answer was "not in your lifetime".

Prior to my treatments I was unable to see my children's faces, could not see my own face in the mirror, and was forced to give up my career as a professional photographer. You cannot imagine the feeling of losing your independence because you can't drive yourself to church, read the newspaper, watch television, shopping is difficult when you are unable to see the price tags and have to depend on others. I hit bottom quickly and became severely depressed. I found myself crying all the time. I don't know how my family managed to get through those dark days with me.

Thanks to the work of Dr. Per Otte at his clinic in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and microacupuncture treatments we proved the doctors wrong! I am now able to drive again and never realized how exciting a trip to the grocery store could be. I can read road signs, see traffic lights change, thread a needle to sew, recognize license plates, knowing that only two short months before I could not see the tail lights on the car in front of me.

Dr. Otte is doing wonderful work and is helping so many people from other states and countries like myself who have been given no hope. He has had tremendous success with the eye treatments with 98% showing improvement. If you happen to be in the 2% of patients that cannot be helped, he will be honest with you from the start. If you have any doubts about his work, go and spend a day at his clinic and talk with the patients waiting in the reception area. You will never have a more rewarding day! One thing you will not hear is there is no HOPE for Macular Degeneration.

I recently returned to the Mayo Clinic for a follow-up visit with my doctor on February 13, 2001. I read all the eye charts and I believe he thought I had memorized them. He went into the waiting room and produced a newspaper that I was also able to read. He seemed shocked when he told me my eyes had improved and the broken blood vessels were gone. (This was the same doctor who told me there was nothing he could do and to expect the condition to get much worse). I had to ask what percentage of his patients with Macular Degeneration showed improvement and his answer was NONE! He could not explain my improved eyesight. I know what caused the improvement and it is called microacupuncture. The doctors refuse to give credit where credit is due! His reply to me was "I don't know anything about acupuncture".

As I was leaving his office, I told him I would be back and my eyes will be better yet!
